Smart Recycling System

I have developed a working robotic arm prototype that uses AI and machine learning to segregate waste materials. This project, which won first prize at the Science Fair and was presented at COP28 last December, focuses on recycling technology.

The robotic arm integrates artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning algorithms, Raspberry Pi, and Arduino. The journey was immensely rewarding, offering substantial learning experiences in various coding and programming languages.

In addition to computer science elements, the project involved overcoming challenges with mechanical and physical components, such as 3D printing, sourcing the right materials, sizing different parts of the arm, and resolving camera and power issues. For instance, the original camera did not have the required resolution, necessitating a new module. This new module was heavier, requiring the creation of a separate mount. Throughout the process, creative solutions were essential to ensure the prototype functioned effectively.

The project culminated in the successful development of a working prototype, representing a comprehensive framework for constructing and optimizing a robotic arm for waste segregation.
